Traveller's Palm

Ravenala madagascariensis

Traveller's Palm, native to Madagascar, Africa, is a common landscaping plant. Its oblong leaves and elongated petioles resemble a giant plantain fan. The leaves grow alternately at the stem apex, arranged neatly in two rows and spreading outward like a peacock flaunting its feathers, creating a distinctive form that makes it a popular ornamental tree.

Its name comes from its tubular leaf sheaths, which can store and provide water for travellers in arid regions to quench their thirst.
