Shrubs and Herbs

蘿芙木
Devil-pepper

Rauvolfia verticillata

Devil-pepper is an evergreen shrub belonging to the Family Apocynaceae, with milky sap present throughout the plant. It blooms almost year-round, with five overlapping white petals arranged in a spiral pattern. The ovoid fruits grow in pairs, starting green and gradually turning bright red before finally maturing to black. Due to its prolonged fruiting period, it is possible to see both green and red fruits on the same plant simultaneously, creating an interesting visual contrast.
