雞矢藤
Chinese Fevervine

Paederia scandens

Chinese Fevervine is a native vine and one of Hong Kong’s common plants. Due to the fowl manure-like odour of its stems and leaves, it gets its Chinese nickname “雞屎藤” which literally means "chicken droppings vine". It is a well-known medicinal plant in traditional Chinese medicine which the entire plant can be used in medicine and also cooking. Villagers in walled villages make Chinese Feverine sticky rice dumpling using Chinese Feverine as the main ingredient for ancestral offerings during the Ching Ming Festival.
