Apart from resembles an umbrella frame, Umbrella Plant also appears a windmill, which its Chinese name comes from. The radial bracts of Umbrella Plant are often misidentified as leaves. In fact, the true leaves have degenerated into sheaths and wrap at the culm bases. Looking closer, its culms are nearly cylindrical, which is different from typical sedges species with triangular culms.
