Celosia argentea
Wild Coxcomb has remarkable adaptability, capable of growing into dense flower fields even on barren lands or stone wall crevices during late summer to early autumn, providing abundant nectar for insects like Danainae butterflies. Its densely packed purple-red flower buds bloom progressively upward from the lower proportion of the stems. As the inflorescence continues to grow longer, the lower flowers gradually turn white, leaving only the purple-red colouration at the tips.
The ornamental Cockscomb (Celosia argentea var. cristata) is a cultivar of Wild Coxcomb, featuring distinctive crested, velvety flowers that are highly popular among horticulture enthusiasts. Through cultivation over prolonged periods of time, various color varieties have been cultivated to decorate gardens.
