Camellia granthamiana

Grantham's Camellia is a local small evergreen tree first discovered in 1955 on Hong Kong's Tai Mo Shan and was named after the then Hong Kong Governor Alexander Grantham. Among all Camellia species in Hong Kong, it has the largest flowers which are 10-14 centimeters in diameter, larger than an adult's palm. It produces globose capsules in mid-summer. As a vulnerable species in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department has implemented conservation measures including artificial propagation and ex-situ conservation.
