Hong Kong Orchid Tree

Bauhinia × blakeana

Hong Kong Orchid Tree is an evergreen tree first discovered in Hong Kong. In 1965, it was selected as the city flower of Hong Kong and later featured on the city's emblem, flag, and coins. It is now widely planted worldwide as a street tree, known for its large, striking flowers that bloom almost throughout the year. Based on molecular evidence, Hong Kong Orchid Tree has been confirmed to be a hybrid between Purple Camel's Foot and Camel's Foot Tree. As it is sterile, it can only be propagated through artificial methods such as cutting, grafting, or air-layering.
