Barrier-free Facilities

 

Hong Kong Wetland Park (the Park) is positioned as a world-class wetland conservation, education and eco-tourism attraction. With the goal of facilitating all visitors including those with special needs to enjoy the Park with ease, the Park provides a barrier-free environment.

 

Ramps access and Lift
Ramp Accesses and Lifts
Most of the walkways in the Park are level, while ramp accesses are provided where necessary, for example to connect the Ticket Office, exhibition galleries and bird hides. The lifts at the Visitor Centre connects the atrium on the ground floor with the exhibition galleries on the first floor. Tactile, braille-marked push buttons and voice-announcement device are set inside the lifts.
 

 

Theatre
Theatre
Theatre is located at the atrium of the Visitor Centre. Inside the theatre, designated spaces with indicator lights on the floor are reserved for wheelchair users.
 

 

Tactile guide paths
Tactile Guide Paths
Tactile guide paths and braille signs are paved along the walkway from the main entrance to the Visitor Centre, as well as inside the Visitor Centre. The tactile paths guide visually impaired visitors to the Ticket Office, souvenir shop, café, toilets, theatre, exhibition galleries and outdoor Wetland Reserve.
 

 

Tactile and Braille Maps
Tactile and Braille Maps
Two tactile and braille maps are installed near the Ticket Office and Wetland Reserve. When a visually impaired visitor approaches the map, the infrared sensor will trigger the map's audio track thus notifying the visitor of its location. The maps also have built-in simple audio narration that can be triggered upon pressing of a button.
 

 

Portable Tactile and Braille Guides

Portable tactile and braille guides are available for loan to visually impaired visitors at the Information Counter to facilitate their visit in the Park.
 

 

Telescopes for wheelchair users
Telescopes for Wheelchair Users
To facilitate wheelchair users to enjoy bird watching, telescopes of suitable heights are available at the Park's bird hides and Viewing Gallery. There are labels in the bird hides to designate spaces for priority use of these telescopes by wheelchair users.
 

 

Wheelchair Loan Service
Wheelchair Loan Service
While visitors can bring their own wheelchairs to the Park, a small number of wheelchairs are also available at the Information Counter for borrowing by visitors.
 

 

Toilets
Toilets
Six wheelchair accessible toilets are provided in the Park. Clear symbols are posted to show the locations of these toilets.
 

 

Car Park
Car Park
One accessible parking space is provided in the car park at the Visitor Centre.
 

 

Induction Loop System
Induction Loop System
To facilitate visitors who use hearing aids to listen clearly at various locations of the Park, an induction loop system has been installed at the Information Counter and Ticket Office.
