Some poets describe dragonflies as the “Winged Jewel” because many species are brightly colored. However, there are some dragonflies without an eye-catching appearance but still being attractive and special. One of the examples is the Green Skimmer.Unlike other species, Green Skimmers do not have colourful bodies and wings and thus cannot be sighted easily when they are hiding themselves in grasslands. The species is featured with only a yellowish green body with black stripes on the thorax. However, with a long and narrow abdomen, the body shape is not ordinary at all. No other species in the Wetland Park possess such a slender abdomen.Perhaps, someone think that the slender bodies of Green Skimmers may hinder their hunting ability. On the contrary, Green Skimmers are aggressive predators which frequently hunt for insects with body sizes comparable with them. They are brave and can drive off any dragonflies staying too close to them no matter how big those species are.In the Wetland Park, Green Skimmers can be found at different types of habitats, including the areas around the Stream Walk and the Mangrove Boardwalk. The species prefer to appear only on those days with warm temperature. If you want to meet them, grasp the time and come to the Wetland Park now.
