錐腹蜻
Asian Pintail
Acisoma panorpoides

There is a piece of nutrient-rich swamp next to the Wildside Walk in the Hong Kong Wetland Pak. It provides sufficient food source to sustain the living of many animals. The Asian Pintails are one of the animals that inhabit the swamp.

The body shape of Asian Pintail is very unique and differs from other dragonfly species. Its body is small and spindle-like, with the abdomen which is significantly narrowed at the last few segments. The adult male is blue and black while the adult female is mainly pale green and black.

Because of their weak flying ability, the adults of Asian Pintail are usually confined to swamps or weedy ponds. From growth, mating to ovipositioning, the species completes its life cycle there.

Next time when you walk alone the Wildside walk, please observe the vegetation along the roadside carefully and see if you can meet this unique dragonfly.
